The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) was established under the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Act No. 19 of 1995 (the Act) to oversee nuclear safety and radiological protection regulation in Nigeria. As part of its mandate, Section 11 of the Act empowers the NNRA to establish the National Institute of Radiation Protection and Research (NIRPR) as its technical support organization.
